Internalized Racial Beauty-Shaming

I love the infinite shades of a woman’s skin.

There are so many different pigments and highlights; all are beautiful. From pink pale to blue-black, every shade should be uplifted for its uniqueness, not broken and shamed.

As a Black woman, I cannot ignore the Memes and cyber bullying against women who are dark-skin.

Although this infuriates me, it also makes me question, how we as Black women allow this form of internalized racism to continue?

How could a black woman bully another black woman because her skin tone is darker?

How can you hate your own race?

This concern is deeply rooted in African-American history. During slavery, slave masters’ purposefully placed Africans in certain positions based on their skin tone. House slaves had typically had a lighter skin toneand darker slaves worked the fields.

Our generations have come and gone, and yet we continue to perpetuate the idea that one shade is better than the other.

Defy the bias that being dark skin means being less-than or ugly.

Now, we are using social media as an outlet for bullying.

I have seen countless Memes that target dark-skin women, saying that they are ugly, look like roaches or ants; are less-than compared to light skin Black girls

Being color blind is a myth…

We cannot help but to see color, but we can see the value in every shade and defy discrimination and bullying against those who are a different skin color or shade than your own.

Place value on the multiple shades within your own race by uplifting, supporting, and educating yourself and others on your biases and their own.

Be an advocate for change and stop internalized racial beauty-shaming.

Love every shade, including your own!

This challenge will uplift, strengthen, and give confidence to women and girls through active self-love, by taking away one-day of wearing makeup. This can help women love what popular culture defines as a flaw.

LADYHOOD journey wants all women to feel beautiful while not wearing makeup.

To Join:

You can go to my FACEBOOK page @Ladyhoodjourney, @ladypinkspen on TWITTER, @pinkspen on INSTAGRAM and post a selfie wearing no makeup every Monday for the next 12 weeks, with the hashtag #NoMakeupMondays

Every woman deserves to feel wanted. If you do not fee wanted, then you are not. If you doubt that he loves you, he probably doesn’t. As the author stated so plainly “Love is not complicated.”

So you match with this guy on Tinder. His chat is pretty decent, so you meet up for a drink. Instant connection. You go home with butterflies in your stomach. You fall into a pattern of seeing each other once of twice a week. It’s all going well. It’s like you’re going out, but neither of you has brought up “what you are” yet. After 2 months, you raise the question. He says he’s not really sure yet, and needs more time to decide. So you give him time. After 3 months, you raise the question again. He says he’s still not sure. You start to feel a little irked. I mean, it’s been 3 months. You’re sure. So why isn’t he? You wonder whether you should just sit out. Maybe 3 months is too soon. Maybe after 4, he’ll realize how great you are and make it official. Or…

Self-Love Quotes

Everyday, I am falling more in love with the woman I am!

noun \ˈself-ˈləv\

Definition of self–love

  1. :  love of self:a:conceitb:  regard for one’s own happiness or advantage

“After all, taking care of oneself is everything but a selfish act. Indeed, self-love intrinsically involves acceptance of both positive features and those which tend to be perceived as negative. Moreover, it goes without saying that flaws and mistakes are part of our identity and should not be denied or omitted. Shortcomings, along with the characteristics we see as appealing, should thus be accepted.”

Beauty is…

“She just wants to be beautiful…She craves attention, she praises an image. She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor…she tries to cover up her pain and cut her woes away, cause Covergirls don’t cry after their face is made…She don’t see her perfect, she don’t understand she’s worth it, or that beauty goes deeper than the surface…You should know your beautiful just the way you are. And you don’t have to change a thing the world could change its heart, no scars to your beautiful…”
